Larson To Resign From Vermont Health Access Department

Mark Larson, commissioner of the Department of Vermont Health Access, who oversaw the troubled rollout of the state's online health insurance marketplace, is resigning.

Governor Peter Shumlin said Tuesday that Larson will be stepping down in March. Deputy commissioner Lori Collins will serve as interim commissioner.

In September, the Vermont Health Connect website was taken down after federal officials warned the state about continuing security problems.

Larson was reprimanded by Shumlin and House Speaker Shap Smith in November after he misled a House committee by saying there had been no security lapses with Vermont Health Connect's online health insurance enrollment program.

Shumlin said Tuesday that Larson "led the department through some challenging times, but no one cared more or tried harder to overcome those challenges."
