Vermont Releases Lists Of Top Delinquent Taxpayers

Vermont Tax Commissioner Mary Peterson says that if the state collected all the delinquent taxes owed by the top 100 individuals and business tax debtors it would add $25 million to state coffers.

Peterson made the comments Monday after her department released, in alphabetical order, lists of the top 100 individual and business delinquent taxpayers in the state.

Peterson says the amount owed ranges from less than $50,000 to more than $2 million. If the state collected back taxes from all people and businesses, including those not on the list, it would bring in about $175 million.

Peterson says that advance publicity that the list was going to be released has enabled the state to recover $730,000 from 131 individuals.

The lists can be found on the tax department website.
