EPA: Bennington Landfill In Good Shape

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says remediation efforts at a former Bennington landfill and hazardous waste site appear to be working as planned.

The former landfill off Houghton Lane in Bennington was put on the federal Superfund list of hazardous waste sites in 1989 and capped a decade later.

The landfill was found to contain PCB chemicals, volatile organic compounds and heavy metals.

The EPA says it checks up on such sites every five years, and that the most recent review shows the now 15-year-old remediation efforts are holding up.

The agency's New England regional office in Boston says no further action on the landfill is warranted as of now.
