Vermont GOP Eager To Work On Bipartisan Goals

WAMC/Pat Bradley

Vermont Republican leaders say they're eager to work with Democrats to solve the challenges facing the state.

Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott, Senate Minority Leader Joe Benning and House Minority Leader Don Turner say they believe Vermonters have made it clear they want lawmakers from both parties to work together.

On Tuesday, the Republicans picked up a small number of seats in both the House and Senate.

One area they say needs immediate action is health care reform.

Turner said members of his party would like to abandon the beleaguered Vermont Health Connect in favor of the fully functional federal health care exchange. He says a bill should be passed as soon as lawmakers return in January.
