Power Lines Being Removed From Waterfront Park

WAMC/Pat Bradley

Visitors to Burlington’s Waterfront Park will soon have a view unobstructed by power lines and utility poles that are being removed after 56 years.

Green Mountain Power CEO Mary Powell says upgrades made to the transmission system throughout Chittenden County make it possible to operate reliably without the lines along the scenic waterfront.

The company says lines extending south from  the Moran Plant through Waterfront Park and to the ECHO  Center for Lake Champlain are being removed this week. Other sections to the north will be removed at a later date.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger says removal of the power lines enhances the beauty of the park and the northern waterfront.
