Utility, Firm Form Partnership On Energy Projects

Green Mountain Power

The head of Vermont's largest electric utility says her company is small enough to be able to implement new ways of saving energy and money quickly and efficiently.

Green Mountain Power President Mary Powell made the comments Tuesday in Essex where she announced a partnership with the national alternative energy company, NRG Energy.

Powell and NRG President Dave Crane says the two companies are going to be working together on a variety of energy projects, including the creation of a state-of-the-art micro-grid electrical distribution system.

Powell says they won't be building a new electrical grid, but breaking the existing grid into smaller pieces that can operate independently.

One project due to become available next year will offer electricity users ways to remotely manage energy consumption.
