Official Count Confirms Lt. Gov. Write In Winner

The official count of Vermont's primary election ballots has confirmed that Progressive lieutenant governor candidate Dean Corren has also qualified for the Democratic nomination by garnering almost 3,900 write-in votes.

The state canvassing committee met Tuesday at the Secretary of State's office in Montpelier to certify the votes.

The lieutenant governor write-in results mean that Corren will challenge incumbent Republican Phil Scott as both a Progressive and a Democrat.

The count confirmed the election night results that Governor Peter Shumlin and U.S. Representative Peter Welch, both Democrats, won their party's nominations. Shumlin will be opposed by Republican Scott Milne while Welch will be opposed by Republican Mark Donka.

The committee also reported that about 9 percent of eligible Vermonters voted last Tuesday.
