Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is calling for more study of a plan to address New England’s energy needs.
A coalition of New England governors, after working more than a year, was going to unveil a plan next month to import more Canadian hydropower and build new natural gas pipelines to be financed by an electricity rate tariff. But Gov. Patrick has now requested a delay to obtain more data.
" There is at least one study on how to meet our energy needs and what the needs are going to be. It needs to be updated because coal-fired plants have been coming offline even faster."
Patrick said he remains committed to a regional solution. State energy officials are projecting an increase in natural gas prices for the upcoming winter heating season in Massachusetts.
