A native of Baltimore, Maryland will be installed Tuesday as the new spiritual leader of the 220,000 Roman Catholics in western Massachusetts.
Mitchell Thomas Rozanski, who will become the 9th Bishop of Springfeld, said he is looking forward to getting to know the region.
" The first part of my ministry will be getting out to know the people, to listen, to learn about the area, and then to work with all the different groups I will collaborate with as we forge a vision for the Diocese of Springfield."
Rozanski , who has chosen as his moto, a portion of the 100th psalm, “ Serve the Lord with Gladness” said he intends to promote the new evangelism supported by Pope Francis. Rozanski will be the first Polish-American bishop of the Springfield diocese, which has a sizable Polish population.
