New Federal Judge Takes Oath In Vermont

Vermont has a new federal judge.

U.S. District Court Judge Geoffrey Crawford was sworn in Monday by Senior District Court Judge William Sessions III.

The court says Crawford began exercising his official duties immediately. A formal ceremony will be held Aug. 12 at the federal courthouse in Burlington.

In June, the U.S. Senate voted 95-0 to confirm Crawford, then a justice on the Vermont Supreme Court.

Crawford was a Vermont trial court judge for 11 years before he was appointed to the state Supreme Court in 2013.

Crawford will replace Sessions, who has taken senior status, a semi-retirement.
