The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking for help from the public in gauging how well the state's turkey flock is reproducing.
The Vermont turkey brood survey starts Aug. 1.
Biologists are asking people who see a group of young turkeys in Vermont during August to visit the turkey brood survey site on the department's website and record where, when and how many adult and young turkeys, or poults, were observed.
State turkey biologist Amy Alfieri says data gathered from the survey will help establish long-term trends in turkey reproduction success.
It will also answer questions about the impacts of spring and winter weather on the survival of turkeys, information that is used to help set turkey hunting seasons and harvest limits.
