Rep. McGovern: Cantor's Replacement Even Worse

Congressman Jim McGovern

Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern, a Democrat from the Second District, says his fellow progressives shouldn’t celebrate House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s loss in a Virginia primary too much. Speaking on WAMC’s Congressional Corner program, McGovern says he didn’t think it was possible to be more conservative than Cantor.

"I think what happened in Cantor's race energizes some of the right wingers to spend even more time and put more intensity into electing more extreme candidates," McGovern said. "I'm not crying that Eric Cantor left, but he wasn't replaced by somebody better. He's being replaced by someone, if you can believe it or not, even worse."
