Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge To Host Open House

Ken Sturm/USFWS

Vermont's Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge in Swanton is planning  an open house to celebrate the area's designation as a wetland of international importance.

The May 17 open house will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the refuge visitor center, seven miles west of Swanton.

People are urged to bring binoculars and help survey on foot and by boat the different bird species that use the refuge in the spring. More than 180 bird species can be found there in the spring.

There will also be an art show and art projects for kids.

At 1 p.m. there will be a guest speaker.

The Missisquoi Delta and Bay was recently honored as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
