VT Lawmaker Buxton Resigns From UVM Trustee Post

A Vermont state lawmaker has resigned her seat on the University of Vermont Board of Trustees because she was concerned about a possible conflict of interest.

Last month's resignation from the trustees by State Representative Sarah Buxton of Tunbridge means there will  be a new election in the Legislature to fill the trustee spot.

Buxton submitted her resignation less than a year into a six-year term. Her legislative district includes South Royalton, where the Vermont Law School is located.

Last year, UVM and the Vermont Law School announced they would collaborate on joint degrees. The two schools could also work together on other issues.

The Burlington Free Press reports that Buxton is worried that representing UVM and the community where the law school is located could present a conflict.
