The Vermont Attorney General's office says the Department of Environmental Conservation of the Agency of Natural Resources is paying $12,000 in civil penalties and $6,000 for an environmental project to settle violations of state hazardous waste disposal rules.

Court documents say the final shipment of hazardous waste from the former R.A. LaRosa Environmental Laboratory in Waterbury was made without a hazardous waste determination prior to shipment. The lab also failed to investigate in a timely manner and report on a hazardous waste shipment.

The final shipment from the lab, which closed after Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, was made in October 2012, but it was not delivered to the designated disposal facility until March 2013.

The attorney general's office says the agency admitted to three violations of hazardous waste rules.
