Chicago Man New President Of VT's Champlain College

A Chicago educator is going to be the next president of Vermont's Champlain College in Burlington.

The college announced Friday that Donald Laackman will succeed the retiring David Finney on July 1.

Laackman is currently president of Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Champlain Trustee Chairwoman Mary Powell says Laackman will bring intellect, emotional engagement and vast professional experience to the job.

Speaking at a Friday campus gathering, Laackman said he's excited by the opportunity to deliver on the promise of higher education to transform students' lives

Laackman was selected from more than 100 candidates.

Champlain College is a small, private college with more than 30 undergraduate degrees and 12 online continuing undergraduate degrees as well as continuing education and graduate programs.
