Long-Time Vermont Lawmaker Sally Fox Dies At 62

Tributes are pouring in for state Sen. Sally Fox, a long-time Vermont lawmaker who served in both the House and Senate and who was known for helping the most vulnerable.

Officials at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington said Fox died Friday. She was 62. The Burlington Free Press reported she had been battling cancer.

Fox, a lawyer, served in the House representing Essex from 1987-2000 and returned to the Senate in 2011.

Governor Peter Shumlin on Friday called Fox a relentless champion for kids and vulnerable Vermonters.

Senate President Pro Tem John Campbell said he couldn't think of anyone more courageous and passionate in fighting for people who couldn't fight for themselves.

Fox is survived by her husband and two grown sons.

Services are set for Sunday in Burlington.
