MGM Submits Final Massachusetts Casino Application

Casino developers in Massachusetts face a Tuesday deadline to submit final applications to state regulators

MGM Resorts filed a final license application Monday with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.  The company said the more than 7,000-page application laid out in detail plans for an $800 million resort casino project in downtown Springfield.  The gaming commission is expected to make the application public in a few weeks. Public hearings on the project will be scheduled in Boston and Springfield.  The city’s chief development officer Kevin Kennedy said everything points to a final licensing decision by late May

"I think we are on the correct path, so I think we are going to be ok."

MGM is the only applicant for a casino license in western Massachusetts.  Wynn Resorts and Mohegan Sun are competing for the lone Greater Boston license.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
