A new round of federal grants will provide subsidies to three more health clinics in Vermont.

Sen. Bernie Sanders announced Thursday that the Battenkill Valley Health Center based in Arlington, the Five-Town Health Alliance based in Bristol and clinics affiliated with Randolph's Gifford Medical Center will receive the aid.

The centers will  each get between $775,000 and $812,000 a year in grants, higher Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements and low-cost prescription drugs.

To qualify, the centers must provide comprehensive primary care, mental health counseling and dental services to patients. Vermont goes from eight to 11 of what are called the federally qualified health centers.

The 236 new centers nationwide are expected to help deal with the larger number of patients seeking care due to the Affordable Care Act taking effect.
