US Sen. Warren: Delay New Flood Insurance Rules

Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren says she's concerned about new federal flood insurance rules.

Warren is pressing Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate about the impact of the new rules on families in Massachusetts and across the country who have been placed into a flood zone for the first time.

Warren said those families are now being asked to pay thousands of dollars in premiums.

Warren said many of the homeowners are dealing with unexpected costs and have few good options. She said she heard from a 70-year-old homeowner on a fixed income unable to pay the proposed insurance rates.

The Massachusetts Democrat says she supports a one-year delay of the new flood insurance rates, which she said would allow more time for a smoother transition while the accuracy of new maps is verified.
