Western Mass. Turnpike Tolls Set To Be Restored

en.wikipedia.org

Tolls will soon return for motorists traveling on the western end of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The first of two informational hearings is scheduled for tonight on implementation of tolls between Exit 1 in West Stockbridge and Exit 6, which leads to Interstate 291 and Springfield. The meeting will be held at Lee High School.

The tolls for motorists traveling between those exits were removed by then Gov. William Weld in 1996. But the Legislature voted to restore them Oct. 15 as part of a transportation financing law.
One bit of good news for drivers is that tolls will cost no more than when they were abolished 17 years ago. For example, the toll would be $1.75 for cars getting on at Exit 6 and getting off at Exit 1.
