The six New England states are receiving a total of nearly $9 million in grants to help unemployed workers find new jobs.

The U.S. Department of Labor grants are designed to help states offer personalized, one-on-one job counseling to people receiving unemployment benefits.

Of the money, about $2.1 million is going to Connecticut; more than $1.2 million to Maine; nearly $4.3 million to Massachusetts; more than $928,000 to New Hampshire, nearly $347,000 to Rhode Island and $951,000 to Vermont.
