Mass. Lawmakers Weigh Gun Bills

wikipedia commons

Massachusetts lawmakers are still grappling with dozens of gun-related bills more than six months after the shooting deaths of 20 first-graders and six educators in neighboring Connecticut.

Some of the bills include sweeping gun control measures like a bill proposed by Gov. Deval Patrick.

Other bills are more targeted, including measures to study whether GPS locators should be installed in guns and whether the state should create a Gun Offender Registry Board.

Not all the proposals are aimed at limiting access to guns.

One bill would bar the confiscation of any lawfully owned firearm during a state of emergency while another would repeal Massachusetts' assault weapons ban.

The Legislature's Public Safety Committee on Monday is holding a public hearing on the bills at Assumption College in Worcester.
