Vermont Governor Tours New Psychiatric Residence

A new temporary psychiatric facility in Middlesex is expected to start admitting patients this week.

An open house Tuesday at the Middlesex Therapeutic Community Residence drew visitors including Governor Peter Shumlin, legislators and other officials.

The seven-bed facility, opened at a cost of $2 million, is part of a series of solutions the state has put in place since the Vermont State Hospital was closed by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

A new state hospital is under construction in Berlin, but patients will also be cared for in other parts of the state.
