Industrial Solar Power Project Being Built in Vermont

WAMC/Pat Bradley

Construction is underway on what will become one of the largest solar-power facilities in Vermont.

Once the project is completed by late summer, more than 9,900 ground-mounted, fixed photovoltaic panels in Franklin County will be tapping the sun to create electricity.

It's expected the project will generate enough electricity to power about 400 homes a year.

Kristina Peterson, CEO of Carlsbad, Calif.-based Greenwood Biosar, tells the Burlington Free Press the solar installation is owned by the Italy-based corporation Enel Green Power, which also owns the 27 megawatt hydro-electric plant in Sheldon Springs.

The Vermont Electric Co-operative of Johnson will connect the plant to the electric grid.
