Vermont Guard Says Air Force Will Consider F-35 Report

A Vermont National Guard official says the Air Force will consider the information in a revised environmental report when it makes a decision on where the base F-35 fighter aircraft.

Guard Environmental Manager Adam Wright made the comments Monday after reviewing the new report.

The revised draft report released Friday found about 2,000 more people would be affected by the noisier planes than the earlier report indicated, bringing the total to about 6,600 under one basing scenario.

Meanwhile, F-35 opponent, Katherine Kirby, of Winooski, a co-founder of the group Save our Skies Vermont, says she hopes the new report will generate more discussions between officials and those affected by the noisier planes.

The guard is considering basing 18 to 24 F-35's in Burlington where they would replace aging F-16 fighters.
