Vermont Health Co-op Discusses Certification Effort

taxcredits.net

A top officer of a newly formed health insurance cooperative says she's going to ask a Vermont regulator to reconsider a decision that denied them a license.

Vermont Health Co-op CEO Christine Oliver says she was blindsided by the decision of the commissioner of the state Department of Financial Regulation.

Oliver and board chairman Mitch Fleischer discussed the issue Wednesday at the co-ops offices in south Burlington.

The department found the co-op's rates would be higher than those of other insurers and that it therefore would not attract enough customers to be financially viable.

Oliver says the rates that were found to be too high were only estimates that were to be adjusted.
