Memorial Day Events In Western Massachusetts

Parades and cemetery ceremonies are taking place in western Massachusetts on Memorial Day.

Several communities, large and small, hold parades in the morning, including Northampton, Holyoke, Palmer ,Turners Falls, and Lenox.  In Springfield,  Catholic Bishop Timothy McDonnell will conduct a mass at St. Michael’s Cemetery. The bishop, the city’s veteran of the year and other officials will place a wreath at  the Veterans Monument in the cemetery.   One of the traditionally well attended annual observances takes place in the state owned veterans’ cemetery in Agawam.  People are advised to come with their own lawn chairs starting an hour before the ceremony which begins at 1PM
