Vermont Plans National Search for Education Secretary

Vermont Agency of Education

A committee of Vermont State Board of Education has been set up to do a national search for a new education secretary.

Armando Vilaseca, who was education commissioner, was appointed to the job for a year in January.

Governor Peter Shumlin had said that a national search would begin at midyear for someone to take the job on a more permanent basis.

Vilaseca had said when he was hired as commissioner more than four years ago that he wanted to spend about five years in state government.

State Board of Education Chairman Stephan Morse says the search committee will recommend review applications and interview candidates and make recommendations of three candidates the full board and the governor in the fall.
