Vermont Warns About Wildfire Danger

Vermont DEC

Vermont officials say dry, breezy conditions have created a high risk for wild fires.

Officials say burning debris is the leading cause of wildfires in Vermont. Local fire departments already have responded to several wildfires around Vermont this spring.

The state says Vermonters can do their part to prevent wildfires by seeking a burn permit from the town forest fire warden, who will only issue them if conditions are favorable for a controlled burn, and avoiding burning on dry windy days when fire weather watches or red flag warning are issued by the National Weather Service.
