Mayors Speak Out For Gun Legislation

The coalition “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” has released a public service announcement calling on Congress to take action on gun violence.

The public service announcement includes Burlington, Vermont Mayor Miro Weinberger and Hartford, Connecticut Mayor Pedro Segarra.  The mayors’ group says it signals a transition from demanding a plan to demanding that Congress take action to require background checks and limit military style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.    Among the 900-member group of mayors, which also includes Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings,  is Barre, Vermont’s Thom Lauzon, who has not yet seen the video.

Vermont Federation of Sportman’s Clubs Vice President Evan Hughes says the group has been working in the statehouse for reasoned gun legislation.

Vermont Traditions Coalition Executive Director Steve McLeod.

Barre Mayor Republican Thom Lauzon says gun control does not need to be a polarizing issue.
