AT&T to Look at Options for Newfane, VT Tower

AT&T says it will consider alternate locations for a new cell tower in the southern Vermont community of Newfane, but the alternative must meet a set of criteria before it could be agreed to.

The move comes after some Newfane residents expressed concern over plans for a 130-foot tower on Oak Hill Road.

Officials say the tower would dramatically improve the town's spotty cell coverage and also could host equipment from two other cell carriers.

The company plans to seek state approval for the Oak Hill tower. But it would exceed height and setback limits in a local ordinance regulating telecommunication facilities.

AT&T spokesman Will Keyser tells the Brattleboro Reformer another location would need a nearby power source, an access road, a willing property owner, and meet environmental regulations.
