Efforts in Massachusetts to boost job prospects for recently returned military veterans will include a Veterans Day Job fair in western Massachusetts Monday.  WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports.

The veterans jobs fair will be held Monday morning at Career Point in Holyoke, one of the state’s one stop employment centers.   The Mass. Office of Labor and Workforce development has awarded grants to several career centers for veterans  programs. State Senator Gale Candaras says Massachusetts is aggressive when it comes to helping veterans transition to civilian life

The unemployment rate for post 9-11 military veterans nationwide is 14.5 percent.

Paul Tuthill is WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief. He’s been covering news, everything from politics and government corruption to natural disasters and the arts, in western Massachusetts since 2007. Before joining WAMC, Paul was a reporter and anchor at WRKO in Boston. He was news director for more than a decade at WTAG in Worcester. Paul has won more than two dozen Associated Press Broadcast Awards. He won an Edward R. Murrow award for reporting on veterans’ healthcare for WAMC in 2011.
