Gov. Malloy Launches Jobs Program in Connecticut

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is launching a key component of last year's bipartisan jobs legislation that attempts to help entrepreneurs get their ideas off the ground.

The Democrat said Thursday that four "hubs" have been approved for Hartford, Stamford, New Haven and Storrs, where participants are provided with everything from financial, professional and mentoring resources to a collaborative workspace.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Malloy said he wants the state to be proactive, help nurture ideas from the ground level, help the entrepreneurs find capital and ultimately ensure these new companies stay and grow in Connecticut. Malloy said many fledgling entrepreneurs have instead taken their ideas to Silicon Valley in California or New York City.

About $5 million in funding has already been approved for the initiative.
