$250,000 Raised For NH Old Man Memorial

At least $250,000 has been raised for a memorial to New Hampshire's fallen Old Man of the Mountain.

The money has come from the sale of paver stones engraved with donors' messages at a plaza built in Franconia Notch. Nearly 600 granite paver stones have been laid in the plaza since last year, when it was dedicated. Paver stones can still be purchased.

The plaza includes seven steel rods that point toward the cliff that used to feature the great stone profile. Each has a series of irregular shapes on the side. When visitors position themselves correctly, they can view an outline of the Old Man.

The Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund is planning a celebration for May 10, 2013, the 10th anniversary of the Old Man's collapse.
