Andy Karl, Tony Nominee For 'On The Twentieth Century'

  On the Twentieth Century is a luxurious madcap musical with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and music by Cy Coleman - The Roundabout Theatre Company production of which is currently running at The American Airlines Theatre in New York City starring Kristin Chenoweth, Peter Gallagher, Mark Lin Baker, Michael McGrath, Mary Louise Wilson, and our guest, Andy Karl. The new Broadway cast recording was released this week on P.S. Classics.

On the Twentieth Century is nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actress for Chenoweth, and Best Performance by a Featured Actor for Andy Karl.

Andy Karl’s recent Broadway credits include Fiyero in Wicked, Tommy DeVito in Jersey Boys, Neville Landless/Mr. Victor Grinstead in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Rocky Balboa in, of course, Rocky.

He joins us to talk about writing, the legacy of a role played by someone before you, and crunching Kristen Chenoweth.

Sarah has been a public radio producer for over fifteen years. She grew up in Saranac Lake, New York where she worked part-time at Pendragon Theatre all through high school and college. She graduated from UAlbany in 2006 with a BA in English and started at WAMC a few weeks later as a part-time board-op in the control room. Through a series of offered and seized opportunities she is now the Senior Contributing Producer of The Roundtable and Producer of The Book Show. During the main thrust of the Covid-19 pandemic shut-down, Sarah hosted a live Instagram interview program "A Face for Radio Video Series." On it, Sarah spoke with actors, musicians, comedians, and artists about the creative activities they were accomplishing and/or missing.
