Berkshire District Attorney Paul Caccaviello

Berkshire District Attorney Paul Caccaviello has been on the campaign trail since May 3rd, about six weeks after he was appointed to fill the position of David Capeless, who left office on March 15th after a surprise retirement at the beginning of that month. Sincehe announced his intentions to run for the seat, he’s debated his two challengers in the Democratic primary, Andrea Harrington and Judith Knight. During the early days of the race, an article in Commonwealth Magazine revealed Capeless’s collaboration with Republican Governor Charlie Baker’s administration that propelled Caccaviello to the top of Berkshire law enforcement ahead of the 2018 election. Caccaviello spoke with WAMC Berkshire Bureau Chief Josh Landes about the campaign so far, and about when he first learned about Capeless’s plans to leave office.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
