A Congressman whose district includes portions of the lower Hudson Valley led a New York delegation letter calling for more education funding for the state’s public schools.
Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel led the letter to congressional leadership, saying that with less than a month before schools reopen, New York faces severe shortfalls in education funding. The Democratic-controlled House passed the Heroes Act in May, which includes $5 billion for education funding in New York, yet the Senate version of the latest COVID-19 relief bill under negotiation offers far less. The letter calls for additional financial support to prevent layoffs, support remote learning, fund school meals, help procure more personal protective equipment (PPE) and more.
