In the wake of the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando that killed 49 victims, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey says one of the weapons used to carry out the attack, an AR-15, should not publicly available.
“But this particular kind of weapon, a military-style assault weapon, to my mind has no place in our communities or in the hands of civilians,” Healey said. “They are weapons that are and intended to be for military use and for the use of law enforcement personnel.”
The Democrat says that is not an effort to infringe on Second Amendment rights. Massachusetts has among the toughest gun laws in the nation. Healey is the nation’s first openly gay attorney general to be elected. She says Massachusetts and the country need to promote tolerance, inclusion and equality.
