The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has determined the firing of Hinsdale Police Chief Nancy Daniels in 2014 was based on her gender and earlier complaints Daniels’ made about the chair of Hinsdale’s Select Board. In an EEOC document provided to WAMC, the Commission finds there is reason to believe the town’s firing of the police chief was discriminatory. The board fired Daniels in January 2014 with the reasoning that she hadn’t completed necessary training. The Commission finds Daniels attempted to complete the training but couldn’t for reasons out of her control. The Commission says the town’s justifications for the firing do not hold up to scrutiny, believing Daniels was terminated for complaining about Select Chair Bonnie Conner’s treatment of her. Daniels says Conner has a vendetta against her.

“She’s had an agenda with me since day one,” Daniels has said.

Conner denies that claim. The Commission is inviting the parties to resolve the matter.
