Rockland County Thursday lifted water use restrictions, citing declining use and moderate rainfall.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day says mandatory water use restrictions imposed by the county Department of Health in July have been lifted. The restrictions, which mainly focused on outdoor water use, were enacted when a prolonged dry spell threatened the Ramapo River well fields that provide 20 percent of Rockland’s water. Day says moderate rainfall over the past two months along with declining water use have alleviated the water emergency declared July 21. Outdoor water use is expected to begin dropping as lawns enter dormancy and pools are closed.
