Hudson River Sloop Clearwater has been awarded a two-year grant to expand its environmental education programs.

Dorr Foundation awarded a $40,000 grant to Beacon-based Clearwater for a Microplastics Pollution Prevention Program. Clearwater considers microplastics pollution a new threat to the Hudson River. The grant will fund activities such as teacher trainings, in-class workshops, shoreline programs and sails on the sloop Clearwater. Clearwater’s interim Executive Director Dave Conover says a federal ban on microbeads recently signed into law this will take care of only a small portion of the problem. Conover says understanding what types of microplastics are entering the Hudson and from where will help address how to reduce this pollution.
