Preliminary reports show a minor earthquake shook Saratoga County Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.1-magnitude quake was reported near South Glens Falls, New York at 6:43 a.m. The Richter scale defines 3.1 as minor, with typically no damage to buildings — but the Times Union reports homes shook in at least parts of the county, according to witnesses.

The U.S. Geological Survey says smaller earthquakes in the Adirondack region are felt once every three or four years. In January, a 3.3-magnitude quake was felt along the Canada-New York border.
