Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal recently toured the nation’s southern border as the Obama administration tries handle the surge of immigrant children attempting to get into the country.Blumenthal says Congress needs to address what he and many others are calling a humanitarian crisis by connecting the thousands of Central American children seeking asylum in the U.S with family in America. The Democrat says housing conditions need to be improved and the deportation process needs to consider potential violence the children are trying to escape.

“They are surrounded, when they first arrive, by Border Patrol agents bearing guns, very imposing, very professional and competent, but the adults in their lives have been mostly a threat,” Blumenthal said Monday afternoon.

Blumenthal toured the McAllen Border Patrol station in Texas, where he says the number of children coming has decreased 30 percent in the past month.
