Northern New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s campaign is blasting her predecessor for a statement he made on behalf of Stefanik’s Democratic challenger, Tedra Cobb.
Democratic hopeful Tedra Cobb released a statement Thursday from former Congressman Bill Owens criticizing of President Trump’s threat to use the Insurrection Act to control protesters. The Democrat writes: “That our Congresswoman stands with the President on this issue casts a shadow over her from which she should not recover.” He says Stefanik, of the 21st district, has moved sharply right.  “This latest adventure where the president threatened to bring in troops and the Congresswoman’s basically siding with the President I found completely inappropriate.”

The Stefanik campaign countered with a statement that the president has not used the Insurrection Act,  and charged Cobb with “siding with the rioters and looters…”

Stefanik defeated Cobb to win a third term in 2018.
