Bombardier says it is opening a new rail car manufacturing plant in California and will shift some manufacturing underway in Plattsburgh, New York to the new facility.
The Bombardier plant in Plattsburgh has a contract to build 775 rail cars for the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, or BART.  About 100 have been completed and delivered.

Bombardier Transportation Spokesperson Maryanne Roberts says a new rail car assembly plant will open in California and the remainder of the BART contract will be transferred from the Plattsburgh plant.  “The site has become pretty full. We needed room there for other east coast orders.”

The Bay Area assembly plant is expected to be operational by this fall.
