New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney is backing former Vice President Joe Biden for president. The Democrat from New York’s 18th District had supported Beto O’Rourke until the former Texas congressman ended his bid for the Democratic nomination in November.

Maloney says Biden can restore the U.S. as a global leader and bring the country together.

“As president, Joe Biden will deliver the local tax relief, infrastructure, clean drinking water and support for our military and veterans that my neighbors in the Hudson Valley want," Maloney said in a statement. "And, as he has always done, Joe Biden will seek to unite us as Americans and drain the poison out of our divided politics.

The top Democratic contenders, including Biden, are slated to debate Tuesday night with the Iowa caucuses less than a month away.

“In 21 days, the Iowa Caucus will officially launch the start of election season," Maloney said. "As voters go to the polls over the coming months, I hope they will join me in voting for Joe Biden.”
