Burlington, Vermont high school students are a step closer to going to classes in an empty downtown department store.

The high school was closed in September because high levels of PCBs were found in one of the buildings.

The Burlington school board voted Tuesday to approve a lease agreement for the former Macy’s building.

WCAX-TV reports that the board is now waiting for the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation to conduct soil contamination testing to see if the building is safe. That testing is expected to start next week.

The district hopes students will be in the building by the end of February.
