Pittsfield, Massachusetts has closed its basketball and tennis courts and its skate park in hopes of stemming the spread of coronavirus.

The measures announced Wednesday join other moves the city of around 43,000 has made like closing playground equipment and banning group activities.

“The parks are still open for passive use. There are some parking restrictions in effect at several parks throughout the city, including Kirvin, Fred Garner, Deming, Belanger, and the north lot at Burbank Park," said Director of Administrative Services Roberta McCulloch-Dews. "We want people to maintain a good social distance of six feet from each other while they enjoy these spaces.”

The city has also extended the closure of municipal offices and buildings through May 4th.
