Thurston Moore – the guitar wielding experimental rock icon known from his days in Sonic Youth – has a new record out entitled “Spirit Counsel.” On the three-disc set, Moore pays tribute to the lives and works of a cadre of dead artists, from one of his early inspirations – composer Glenn Branca – to figures like Alice Coltrane, Moki Cherry, Jayne Cortez, and more. He spoke to WAMC about what unites the sprawling guitar explorations on “Spirit Counsel” before a run of shows in December including stops in Woodstock and Holyoke.

Moore plays Colony in Woodstock, NY, on December 2nd, and Gateway City Arts in Holyoke, MA, on December 3rd. For more on his tour, click here.
